Jones held without bond on first degree murder charge

VERO BEACH — Michael Jones appeared before the court early Thursday morning in St. Lucie County for his first hearing in regards to the first degree murder charge he was served with Wednesday evening.

Jones is being charged with the homicide of Vero Beach resident Diana Duve. The autopsy report released Tuesday showed Duve was killed by strangulation and secondary blunt force injuries.

When the Honorable Judge Kathryn Nelson ruled Jones would remain incarcerated without bond, he gave no reaction.

Jones will be appointed a public defender.

He is expected to be transported to the Indian River County jail today.

According to an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, the first degree murder warrant affidavit has been ordered sealed by Honorable Judge Robert Pegg because the investigation is ongoing.
