Deadly domestic violence cases highlight need for continued education and support

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Recent high profile cases on the Treasure Coast highlight the need for continued education and support in the area of domestic violence. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office partners with SafeSpace throughout the year to provide shelter, education, and support to victims of domestic violence.

“We know how quickly domestic violence can turn into a death investigation” said Sheriff Deryl Loar. “Our hearts go out to those affected by the tragic events that have unfolded around us in the past couple days. We encourage anyone currently living in a domestic violence situation to contact our partners at SafeSpace.”

SafeSpace is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit United Way organization serving victims of domestic abuse in Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties. In addition to providing emergency shelters with two 24 bedroom facilities, SafeSpace provides outreach services to individuals who have not entered a shelter but whose lives are being affected by domestic violence.

SafeSpace can be reached toll free at 1-800-500-1119.
