Vero Beach man killed in Sunday crash

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — The passenger involved in the fatal crash Sunday afternoon that claimed the life of the driver as well, has been identified as a Vero Beach resident, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Anthony Stanyard, 27, of Vero Beach, was killed, as well as the driver, Matthew Compton, in the 2001 Honda Civic on Indrio Road and the intersection of Russakis Road, according to the report.

Joseph Perdue, 70, of Ft. Pierce was in the other car involved in the crash, according to authorities. He was driving a 2008 Kia Sedona. Perdue was transported to Lawnwood Regional Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

Compton’s vehicle crossed the center line striking Perdue head on, according to FHP. 

Both Compton and Stanyard were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. All involved were wearing seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
