SEBASTIAN — An 84-year-old woman was run over by a car backing up that did not see her in the Sebastian Winn-Dixie parking lot, according to Sebastian Police Department Spokesman Ofc. Steve Marcinick.
Mary Favret-Zrida, 84, Sebastian, died after being hit around 5 p.m. Thursday by Margaret Schaal, 57, of Indian River County, according to Marcinick.
Favret-Zrida reportedly walked behind Schaal’s vehicle when the crash happened, according to authorities. Schaal said she looked but did not see Favret-Zrida.
Shaal backed over Favret-Zrida, police said.
“(Schaal) had no idea she hit her,” said Marcinick.
Schaal stopped her car when witnesses made her aware she had run Favret-Zrida over, according to police.
“There does not appear to be any criminal element to this crash,” said Marcinick.
The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
