VERO BEACH — The Treasure Coast Wind Ensemble will present its 7th Annual Summer Concert on Friday, June 20, at 7 p.m. in the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, Vero Beach.
This concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. Donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the operations of the Performing Arts Center.
The performance is led by Page Howell and includes Beethoven’s Octet in E flat, Fanfare for Brass by Karel Husa and Symphony in B flat by Paul Hindemith. Beethoven’s Octet has four movements in the classical style and features oboes, clarinets, horns and bassoons.
Husa, born in Prague, became an American citizen in 1959, has been composing music since 1944 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1969.The Pytheas Center for Contemporary Music claims “his music is clear in style, often with powerful rhythms and dramatic ostinatos, and sometimes including quarter-tones and serialism; he is a brilliant orchestrator.”
Hindemith is among the most significant German composers of his time. Written in 1951, his Symphony exhibits strong contrapuntal lines throughout, and is a cornerstone of band repertoire.
The TCWE is comprised of both local professional and semi-professional musicians.
