COMMISSIONERS: Sheriff’s Office to get new ladders, cameras

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Sheriff Deryl Loar approached the Board of County Commissioners with a request to approve $2,600 for new ladders and $8,600 for new cameras to be funded by impact fees.

“Impact fees are a sensitive area,” Commissioner Peter O’Bryan said. He asked Sheriff Loar to specify whether or not the ladders and cameras would be used in new areas of the corrections facility not yet covered, or if they would be replacing existing equipment.

Loar said the ladders would be used in new areas and the cameras would be used in areas not yet covered by current security cameras.

County Attorney Dylan Reingold said Loar’s requests are covered by impact fees because the materials are intended for the new, expanded portion of the facilities and are not being used to replace existing equipment.

Commissioner Bob Solari motioned to approve Loar’s request as presented, Commissioner Joe Flescher seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
