Catherine Shirley Schwander, 84, Vero Beach

Catherine Shirley Schwander died at Indian River Medical Center on June 11, 2014, at the age of 84.

Catherine is survived by her sister, Barbara Pammer of Miramar, Fla.

Catherine was born in New Haven, Ct., in 1929. She attended school in New York where she later met her husband, John. They lived in the same neighborhood and fell in love.

Catherine was married to her loving husband, John Schwander, for 54 years. They were married in New York, New York, where they lived and raised their young children until moving to New Jersey as a family in 1954. She was a long time resident of Ogdensburg, NJ, and later lived in Stuart and Vero Beach, Fla.

Catherine is survived by her three children, Karen Fowler, Janet Heredia, and Kevin Schwander; her grandchildren Ezra Fowler, Melissa Heredia, Christopher Heredia, Charlie Fowler, Allison Heredia, Kyle Schwander, John Fowler, Brian Heredia, Kim Schwander, and Kurt Schwander; and her great-grandchildren, Billy, Chris, Gianna, Kiya, Korha, Wesley, Hayden, Grayson, John Davis, Justus, Anabelle, and Myles.

Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, travelling to see them and hosting whenever possible.

She loved reading, watching soap operas, American Idol, The Voice, and classic films.

The visitation was held at Cox, Gifford, Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, Florida on Friday, June 13, 2014. Prayers were offered at a Vigil Service following the visitation at the funeral home.

A celebration of her life was held at St. John of the Cross, 7550 26th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, June 14, 2014, at 10 a.m.

Burial followed at Forest Hill Memorial Park, 2001 S.W. Murphy Road, Palm City, Fla., at 1:30 p.m.
