Dorothy Fashek, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 3, 2014.
She is survived by her two sons, Norman L. Fashek (Tara Mactaggart) and Christopher M. Fashek (Christine Robb); four grandchildren, Christiane Schmidt (Manuel), Allison Van Dusen (Matthew), Christopher Walenty Fashek, and John Cameron Fashek; and four great-grandchildren, Ava Quinn Van Dusen, Xaver Christopher Schmidt, Valentin Robb Schmidt and Ridley Ford Van Dusen.
Fashek was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Fashek in 2000.
Fashek was born in Passaic, N.J., to William and Catherine (nee Soltis) Skawinski and was their only child. She lived most of her adult life in Clifton, N.J., and came to Vero Beach three years ago to be near family.
She was a graduate of Passaic High School, Passaic, N.J., married young and worked most of her adult life. She was a native speaker of both Polish and English.
Fashek, who had previously worked only in the private sector, retired in 1991 after 14 years as a probation officer for the State of New Jersey Passaic County Probation Division.
She was a member of the Elks Lodge Women’s Auxiliary and the Athenia Veterans Post Women’s Auxiliary, Clifton, N.J.
She enjoyed an active social life making many friends at work and in her community and traveled all her life to Florida to visit family. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday June 14, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2085 Tallahassee Avenue, Vero Beach. Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. An online guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
