INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – According to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service, scattered to numerous thunderstorms could impact Indian River County and surrounding areas this afternoon and into the evening.
The report states, “thunderstorms will develop between the I-75 and I-95 corridors as the East and West Coast sea breezes push inland. A mid level trough over South Florida will add additional instability to the atmosphere which will allow the storms to become strong.”
The storms could produce “frequent lightning” and wind gusts over 50 miles per hour.
Storms are expected to last through sunset.
