There is help for seniors in energy-related crisis

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Senior Resource Association (SRA) currently has funds available through the Emergency Home Energy Assistance for the Elderly Program to assist financially eligible people, age 60 and older, who are experiencing an energy-related crisis.

A crisis may be a household without electricity or with a past-due or shut-off notice for utility services.

Program applicants must present proof of the following for assistance:

At least one household member 60 years of age or older;

A disconnect or final shut-off notice from their energy provider;

Gross annual household income may not exceed $17,505 for one person, $23,595

for two people, or $4,060 for each additional person in the household; and,

Indian River County residency.

In addition, the applicant may not have received LIHEAP or EHEAP energy assistance during the same heating/cooling season, and must be a legal U.S. resident.

There is a limit to the assistance provided.
