Anne Walker Chestnut Bartlett, Vero Beach

Anne Walker Chestnut Bartlett, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 5, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Bartlett; daughters, Deborah Robina and Sara Bartlett Young; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born in 1924 and raised in Sturgis Mich., Bartlett later attended Michigan State University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Upon his return from the Navy, Bartlett married C. Philip Bartlett on May 22, 1948. They just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

They raised two daughters, Deborah Robina, an Executive Senior Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics and Sara Bartlett Young, former Director of Education and Outreach at South Bend Civic Theatre.

Bartlett cared deeply about church, social needs and sorority outreach. She was a founding member of the Birmingham Congregational Church in Michigan, an active member of Stanley UCC in Chatham, N.J., and was also involved at The Community Church of Vero Beach, where she and her husband were a key part of the children’s tutoring program.

She held integral leadership positions all of her adult life at both the national and local levels of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.  Her passions included spending time with her family, playing bridge and enjoying the Jersey Shore.

A wise and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 16, including a brief service at 3 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home 2028 Highway 35 Wall, NJ 07719. There will be a second service celebrating Bartlett’s life this coming fall held in Vero Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking those who are interested to please make a contribution to either The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation PO Box 801867 Kansas City MO 64180;  or The Community Church of Vero Beach Tutoring Program 1901 at 23rd Street Vero Beach FL 32960.
