William Turner, 89, Vero Beach

William Turner, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 3, 2014.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Breckenridge MacBeth Turner; three children, Susan Eaton (David); Stephen William Turner (Carolyn), and Leslie Carson (Kenneth); his wife’s three children, Linda MacBeth Kiarsis, Campbell MacBeth, and Edward MacBeth; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Liddell Turner.

Born in Boston in 1925, the only son of Humphrey William Turner and Lois Clapp Turner, Turner grew up in Norwell, Mass. He attended Norwich University and left to enlist in the U.S.A.F in 1943. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant and pilot during World War II.

Upon his return, he completed his college education at Babson Institute. Turner began his career at Boston’s oldest Ford dealership, Coombs and McBeath, Inc.

After 12 years, he and his business partners established Ashley Ford Sales, Inc. and Royal Lincoln Mercury, Inc., in New Bedford, Mass., and Toyota of Hyannis, Inc.

In 1972, Turner and his partners established the New Bradford Co., Inc., a real estate investment company, in Wellesley, Mass. He retired in 1980 and he and his wife moved to Vero Beach after residing in South Dartmouth, Mass. for 19 years.

He enjoyed fishing, boating and golf. He was a member and director of the New Bedford Yacht Club, South Dartmouth, Mass., a member of Bent Pine Golf Club, the Moorings Club, Indian River Club in Vero Beach, and Bald Peak Golf Club in Tuftonboro, N.H.

He fished and boated in Buzzard’s Bay, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas.

Turner was married to Jane Liddell Turner from 1948 until her death in 1992.
