Month-long investigation nets large amount of marijuana

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A month-long Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Multi-Agency Criminal Enforcement (M.A.C.E.) Unit investigation lead to the confiscation of a large amount of marijuana, money, and a gun and the arrest of a Vero Beach area man, according to authorities.

A search warrant was served in the 600 block of 3rd Street Southwest where detectives located and seized a loaded .357 magnum handgun, nearly 300 grams of marijuana, and $1,504 in drug money, according to the press release.

Leon McCloud Jr., 32, of Vero Beach, was arrested and faces charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of probation, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“The MACE unit will continue to identify and arrest those who feel they are above the law. We strongly encourage upstanding citizens to contact my office or Crime Stoppers if they have a tip for us regarding illegal activity,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar.
