Jano Henning, 98, of Vero Beach, passed away on May 14, 2014.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Jane) Henning; daughter, Jacqueline Henning; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and great- grandnieces and nephews in Belgium.
Henning was born in Zottegem, Belgium on Aug. 22, 1915. She married Orville Henning, who was serving in the U.S. Army, on May 22, 1946 in Wiesbaden, Germany. They lived in Sutherland, Iowa until 1959 when the family moved to Fort Pierce.
She was a teacher in Iowa and in Fort Pierce. She earned her U.S. undergraduate degree at Buena Vista College in Iowa and a Master’s degree in education from Florida Atlantic University. She taught French in the St. Lucie County School System from 1959 until 1979 when she retired. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary teacher’s sorority.
After retiring, she and and her husband enjoyed summers in the mountains of north Georgia until 2001. She moved to Vero Beach and lived at the Florida Baptist Retirement Center until her death on May 14, 2014.
Her ashes will join those of Orville, her husband of 55 years, in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
