County to hold Gifford Community Meeting June 12

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — County Attorney Dylan Reingold announced Tuesday that the Board of County Commissioners invites all members of the Gifford community and other stakeholders to attend a Gifford Community Meeting at 6 p.m. June 12 at the Gifford Community Center, 4855 43rd Ave.

County officials have for several years been periodically meeting with community leaders, property owners and business owners to hammer out a plan to improve aesthetics, public safety and economic development in the Gifford area.

Though contentious at times, and though several serious concerns of local residents are still unresolved, the meetings and planning sessions resulted in a proposed industrial overlay plan for 163 acres of the West Gifford area.

A draft of the plan came before the Board in February but was sent back for further revisions.

On May 13 the Board unanimously approved the plan on a first public hearing, with a final public hearing set for 5:01 p.m. June 3 in Commission Chambers in Building A of the Indian River County Administration Building.
