VERO BEACH — Two men have been arrested following an altercation during a card game, according to the Vero Beach Police Department. One was arrested for assault, the other for drug paraphernalia possession.
Deryk Kimerey, 23, faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, and Jeffrey Sousa, 48, faces a charge of battery, from an incident that took place Monday around 3:30 a.m. on Aero Lane, Vero Beach, according to the report.
The incident started when Sousa grabbed Kimerey by the neck and head-butted him in the nose after Sousa became upset during a card game, according to authorities. Though Sousa denied grabbing or striking Kimerey, he told authorities they did argue but he never touched Kimerey.
Kimerey had blood coming out of his nose.
During the investigation, Kimerey was asked if he had any form of identification, according to police. Kimerey answered no, it was in his home.
Kimerey gave police permission to walk into his house and go into “his room.”
When Ofc. Slattery walked into his room, he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana, according to the arrest report. He observed a glass pipe in plain view on top of a chest of drawers. The pipe had a distinctive odor of burnt marijuana.
Both Sousa and Kimerey are still being held at the Indian River County Jail on their respective charges.
