UPDATE: Health Department to reopen Friday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY —  The Florida Department of Health office located in Indian River County will reopen as originally scheduled on Friday after an air conditioning malfunction Thursday forced the office to close.

The Health Department, located at 1900 27th St., Vero Beach, will open at 8 a.m.


INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Florida Department of Health office located in Indian River County has shut down today due to an air conditioning malfunction. Officials cited “extreme temperatures” in the office, located at 1900 27th St., Vero Beach.

The closure was enacted at 10:30 a.m.

Mechanical issues with the air conditioning unit responsible for cooling the building have resulted in extreme temperatures presenting health challenges for clients and staff as well as overheating issues with equipment.

Services not accessible Thursday include:

  • WIC Clinic and voucher pick up services
  • Vital Statistics services (Birth and Death Certificates)
  • Environmental Health Services
  • Dental Clinics
  • All Adult Health Clinic Services
  • WE CARE
  • Medical Records
  • Laboratory Services
  • Project Response Services
  • SHINE- Medicare Appointments

Clients with appointments scheduled for Friday, May 9, at the 1900 27th Street location, should call (772) 794-7405 after 8 p.m. Thursday to verify that the facility will reopen and services are available for Friday.

Services for pediatric clients’ ages 0-17 will continue to be provided at the Gifford Health Center location, 4675 28th Ct., Vero Beach.
