David L. Hancock, 58, Sebastian

David L. Hancock, 58, of Sebastian, passed away on May 4, 2014, after experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

He is survived his father Horace H. Hancock Jr.; step mother, Janet Hancock; brothers, Samuel (Jackie) Hancock, Thomas (Leslie) Hancock, Stephen (Anne) Hancock; sister Lisa (Chris) Bengel; son, Justin David Vaughn Hancock; and fiancé Lynn Thomas.

He is predeceased by his mother Jane (Butters) Hancock.

Hancock was born on Jan. 20, 1956, in Arlington Va., the first born child of Horace and Jane Hancock.

He was a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law. He was in the private practice of law for approximately 25 years in the Treasure Coast region of Florida.

Hancock also served as legal counsel to the Indian River County and Brevard County Value Adjustment Boards and the Indian River County Code Enforcement Board. He was appointed as the City of Sebastian, Florida Code Enforcement Special Magistrate in 2009.

He was pleased to be involved in many professional, civic, and not-for-profit organizations including the Florida Bar Association (Real Property, Trusts and Probate Section), the Indian River County Bar Association, the Indian River Estate Planning Council, the Indian River County Real Property Council, the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce (Legislative and Government Affairs Committee), Operation Hope of Greater Florida, Vero Beach Opera, and the Deborah Voigt and Vero Beach Opera Foundation Trust.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Operation Hope of Greater Florida, of Fellsmere, (www.operation hopefl.org). Hancock will always be remembered for his intellect, dry sense of humor and kind nature. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
