Hearing planned for extended alcohol sale hours in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach City Manager Jim O’Connor said the City received a letter from 20 establishments in the city limits that wish to extend hours from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. because they have observed a migration of customers to other counties.

Currently, restaurants must stop selling and serving alcohol at 1 a.m., but neighboring counties allow alcohol service to continue until 2 a.m.

“The police chief has no problem with this,” O’Connor said.

Council voted 4-1 to move the topic to a public hearing scheduled for May 20, with Councilman Craig Fletcher dissenting.
