Family displaced after house fire in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A family of three was displaced after a house fire Tuesday afternoon. The American Red Cross responded to assist the family.

The fire occurred in the 900 block of 6th Street, displacing one adult and two children, ages 13 and 14, according to the American Red Cross.

Volunteers arrived on scene to help coordinate emergency aid for the family, providing lodging, food and clothing. The volunteers also provided recovery supplies.

A call to Indian River Fire Rescue for more details regarding the fire was not immediately returned.

The Red Cross volunteers are members of the organization’s Disaster Action Team, which is a “group of specially trained volunteers who respond to the scene of a local disaster when called upon at any time of the day or night,” according to the Red Cross.
