Dr. Enoch James Vann, 88, Vero Beach

Dr. Enoch James Vann, 88, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 15, 2014.

He is survived by Jayne, his wife of 65 years; his son, Enoch James Vann III; daughters, Beth Smith, Jan Patrick, Valerie Vann-Oettl, Susie Wallace, and Dede Marine; cousins, Polly Ingram, Martha Wright, Louie Perry, Frank Perry, Dr. Joel Futral, Dr. Ashley Futral, and Dr. Perry Ann.

He was born on July 22, 1925, in Boston, Ga., to Sara Perry and Enoch James Vann, Sr. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee. It was there that he met his loving wife, Sarah Jayne Turner.

Immediately following his residency in Memphis at John Gaston Hospital, he joined the United States Navy and served overseas as a flight surgeon during the Korean War. His passion for medicine and dedication to the art of healing led him to Vero Beach in 1954, where he joined the practice of Dr. E.B. Hardee.

His most fulfilling achievement during his 40 year career was the collaboration with Doctors William White and Donald Gold in the creation of The Doctors’ Clinic.

During his 21 years of retirement he thoroughly enjoyed his 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His wife and children will forever remember him as a man utterly devoted to his family and to the service of others.

A celebration of his life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th St. on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home, 51 Children’s Way, Enterprise, FL 32725, or the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indian River County, 1729 17th Ave., Vero Beach, 32960.
