Time to clean out old meds with Operation Medicine Cabinet Saturday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On Saturday, April, 26, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the drug take-back program, Operation Medicine Cabinet.

The public is encouraged to bring their expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications to one of the following convenient locations between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • Walgreens at 13613 Roseland Road (on the corner of U.S. 1), Sebastian.
  • Walgreens at 999 Sebastian Boulevard, Sebastian.
  • Walgreens at 5755 20th St., Vero Beach.
  • Walgreens at 1701 US 1, Vero Beach.
  • Perkins Pharmacy at 4015 20th Street, Vero Beach.
  • Treasure Coast Community Health, 12196 CR 512, Fellsmere.

This nationwide pharmaceutical take back program is designed to help keep medication out of the hands of those to which it was not prescribed and to avoid it from being flushed or put in a drain where it could negatively affect the environment.

  • DO – Bring unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medication to one of the locations listed for proper disposal.
  • DO – Lock up all medications and keep away from children and teens.
  • DON’T – Flush medication down the toilet. It is a danger to our environment.
  • DON’T – Bring needles or other “sharps.” They cannot be accepted. Instead take them to the Health Department at 1900 27th St., Vero Beach.
