INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The community is invited to support the “Moonshot Moment: 90 percent Literacy by the end if third grade in 2018” and to Celebrate World Book Night on Wednesday, April 23, from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Citrus Bowl Stadium in Vero Beach.
During the event, the largest group of readers ever together in one place in Indian River County will gather. They will line up on the Vero Beach High School Football Field in the shape of the Moonshot Moment rocket.
The Sheriff’s helicopter will fly overhead at 5 p.m. to take the photo.
Organizers will give away more than 1,200 new books, thanks to donations from Capstone Publishers and World Book Night.
Special guest speakers include authors Carl Hiaasen and local children’s book authors Beth Hofer and also Karin Hammler. Schools Superintendent Dr. Fran Adams will also be on hand to speak to the group.
The event is open to all – young and old – and organizers expect more than 600 people on the field.
Moonshot Sports teams will participate with their Coaches and families and will wear uniforms.
