GIFFORD — A Vero Beach man and four juveniles were arrested for burglarizing a home in the 4800 block of 29th and 32nd Avenue in Gifford, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Lionel Ferrin, 19, and four juveniles, were arrested for stealing Mountain Dew, clothing, jewelry, and liquor April 17, according to authorities.
The initial call came in about three black males who attempted to break into the home through a rear window.
A 10-year-old child in the residence heard the screen being removed from the window and when he opened the blinds he saw the males. Once the suspects saw the child, they fled on foot. The child had seen the suspects before, according to authorities.
One of the suspects had been previously arrested for a burglary in that area a short while ago, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Immediately after, a second burglary call came in from the 4600 block of 32nd Avenue, according to authorities. This burglary involved breaking in through the rear door to the residence. This is where the items were stolen from. The estimated value was $650.
When Ferrin was taken into custody, a bottle of stolen liquor was discovered in his pants, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He told investigators he was at the residence located on 29th and 32nd Avenue. He also said he used a shovel to pry open the back door.
Ferrin and one juvenile have been previously arrested for burglary, according to the report. Ferrin faces charges of attempted burglary of an occupied structure, burglary, grand theft, and criminal mischief.
