FELLSMERE — In the last month there have been several car burglaries in the Sonrise Villas Apartments, according to the Fellsmere Police Department.
The latest suspected attempted burglary occurred April 20, around 2 a.m.
A Fellsmere Police officer investigated the report of a suspicious incident in the area of 64 Sonrise Square, Sonrise Villas Apartments, according to authorities.
The officer met with the victim who reported seeing an unknown male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt standing next to the driver side door of his vehicle, according to police. The unknown male appeared to be trying to force entry in to his vehicle.
The complainant yelled at the suspect, who then ran to a nearby vehicle he described as an older model black Buick with dark tinted windows, according to police. The complainant said he thought he saw two or three more males in the car. The vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed.
This incident is similar to recent events in Sonrise Villas Complex in which three vehicles were burglarized and one vehicle was stolen, according to authorities. The information shared with the community at that time was as follows:
On March 30, an Fellsmere Police Department officer investigated the report of an attempted motor vehicle theft/auto burglary at Sonrise Villas, according to police. Sometime between 1:30 a.m. on March 30 and 11:15 a.m. the same day, unknown suspect(s) entered a motor vehicle parked in the complex in an attempt to steal it, as evidenced by damage done to the vehicles’ steering column, and while inside the vehicle, suspects(s) removed items of value.
Additional police reports taken over the weekend indicate that unknown suspect(s) attempted to forcibly enter two other motor vehicles in the Sonrise complex in addition to this one, according to authorities. All three of these cases are likely related to the Ford Explorer theft (vehicle already recovered).
