Sally Pauline Morton, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 14, 2014.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Scott Morton; mother, Mary Lough O’Toole; sisters Kathleen Gill (Peter), and Jane Vorsheck (John); daughters, Mary Catherine Morton, and Emily Taft (Wes); and grandsons Ray and Spencer Taft.
Born to Ray and Mary Lough O’Toole in 1951, Morton has resided in Vero Beach since 1966 and graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1969. She subsequently earned a degree in Humanities from Florida Southern College.
Morton and her husband enjoyed spending time at the family’s second home in the mountains of North Georgia where she enjoyed gardening, water color painting, and hosting thoughtful gatherings for both friends and family.
Their first grandchild was born in 2006 and one of her greatest joys, since that year, has been spending time with her young grandsons.
In the words of her husband, “Sally was loving, caring, and deeply devoted to those she loved, lived and laughed with. She was determined, fierce and sensitive, never shying away from a new experience. Artist, writer, designer, gardener, cook, and grandmother were all in her sights. She collected and learned every detail from any source necessary to be the best she could be. Sally was easy to love but hard to know. Her thoughts on most matters were clearly stated and she was rarely wrong. Respected, loved and painfully missed.”
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, April 21, at Quail Valley River Club, the site of the Mortons’ 1973 wedding reception. The family would like to welcome all who knew and loved Sally. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Indian River Land Trust, www.indianriverlandtrust.org.
