INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Gina Marie Albrecht, a 37-year-old nursing assistant and 30-year resident of the Vero Beach Highlands, was arrested on May 1 and charged with 10 felony counts, the gravest among them being aggravated manslaughter and neglect of an elderly or disabled person, causing great harm.
Albrecht, who is being held on $205,000 bond at the Indian River County Jail is also facing four charges of forgery and four charges of fraudulent use of identification.
The charges emanated from the events leading up to the Oct. 24, 2012 death of 81-year-old Indian River Shores resident George W. May Jr.
The story of how Albrecht came to be May’s caregiver, how she allegedly took control of May’s finances and his estate, and how May eventually was left to die alone in his bed is presented in detail in two articles in the May 9, 2013 issue of Vero Beach 32963.
