Eugene Gordon Moody, Vero Beach

Eugene Gordon Moody, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 8, 2014.

He is survived by his daughters Martha Moody Glassmeyer, Janet Moore, and Patricia Moody; and two grandchildren, Andrew Gordon McCullagh, and Porter Ellen Moore.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Lois.

Moody graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He was a lifelong Michigan fan where he lettered in track and field every year and graduated with academic honors. He earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Michigan in 1949. He served as City Manager of Freemont, Mich., and of Bloomington, Ill.

In 1964 he was elected President of the Illinois City Managers Association. He was an active member of his community having been President of the Rotary Club of Bloomington, Elder in his church and referee of high school basketball and baseball games. The family moved to the St. Louis Area where he was Executive Director of the St. Louis, Missouri- Illinois Council of Government for 10 years. The Moodys spent their retirement years in Hendersonville, N.C.

After his wife’s passing, Moody moved to Vero Beach to be closer to family. He volunteered at the local hospital, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and participated as a Range Rider for the Florida City and County Management Association.

He was a stellar husband, father and human being. He traveled widely, read voraciously, and was unfailingly respectful of everyone he encountered. He contributed greatly to the progress and public life of every community he lived in. He is missed by his grateful family.

There will be a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
