Shirley Craine, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 29, 2014.
She is survived by her sister Sylvia Drum; and by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Red Creek, N.Y., on Jan. 27, 1928, Craine was one of twins born to Philip and Doris Craine. During an event filled life, she passionately pursued her interests, enlisted in the United States Air Force in April of 1952, served with distinction as a Flight Traffic Specialist on assignment throughout the world, and although she never saw combat, she was one of a select group of women trained as paratroopers.
Upon honorable discharge, Craine began a long entrepreneurial career establishing and operating several successful businesses. She was an enthusiastic supporter of many civic organizations, was a devoted and active member of The American Legion, and was especially honored when she was appointed first woman commander of an American Legion Post.
Craine was especially thankful to her devoted lifelong friend Gail Colf for the caring and the support she provided.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 11, at 2 p.m. followed by a Rite of Christian Burial, Military Honors, and interment at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay. More information can be found at www.dignitymemorial.com/fountainheadfuneralhome
