INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — On Wednesday, April 9, the Florida Department of Transportation plans to begin the reconstruction of the westbound State Road 60 to southbound Interstate 95 entrance ramp, as part of the ongoing I-95 expansion in Indian River County.
By 3 p.m. Wednesday, the ramp will be temporarily closed until late summer 2014 when the work is anticipated to be completed.
During reconstruction of the ramp, a temporary signal will be in service that will allow motorists wishing to travel from westbound SR 60 to southbound I-95 to turn left onto the existing eastbound SR 60 to southbound I-95 entrance ramp.
Drivers traveling eastbound and westbound on SR 60 through the interchange area will also encounter the temporary signal.
Signage will be utilized along with variable message sign boards to alert motorists of this temporary configuration.
This ramp reconstruction is part of the $54.4 million I-95 widening project, from the St. Lucie/Indian River County Line to just north of State Road 60.
Work for this project includes widening I-95 one lane in each direction; milling and resurfacing of existing lanes; landscaping, signalization and highway lighting improvements; constructing sound walls adjacent to the Department of Corrections Housing, Indian River Aerodrome, and Lakewood Village communities; replacement of the bridges at 4th Street (Citrus Road), 90th Avenue, and State Road 60 (Osceola Boulevard); reconstructing the interchange at State Road 60; and reconfiguring turning lanes and adding signalization at the 94th Avenue Intersection.
