Barbara G. Gutmann, 82, Vero Beach

Barbara G. Gutmann, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 29, 2014.

She is survived by her husband Phillip W. Gutmann; son Kirk Gutmann; daughter Jill Massey (Terence); brother Bill Griffith (Nancy); granddaughters, Jaclyn Triplett (Louis), Kristin Gutmann, Barbara Gutmann, and Jillian Massey; and grandsons, Alexander and Zachary Massey.

Gutmann was a resident of Vero Beach and lived in her home of Moreland Hills, Ohio, for many years.

She attended Denison University and was a member of Alpha Phi Beta Kappa Sorority. She graduated from Mather College, part of Western Reserve University. She was an English and drama teacher and received her Master’s degree from John Carroll University.

Gutmann also was a member of the Panhellenic Council. She was President of several organizations both in Cleveland, Ohio and Nashville, Tenn., where she also resided for ten years.

She was active in Red Cross, Traveler’s Aide, Cleveland Clinic Women’s Health, Garden Club and many other charity organizations. She was an avid golfer and was a member of Richland Country Club, Shaker Country Club, and The Moorings Golf Club. She was also on the Board at the Moorings in Vero Beach.

On June 16, she would have been married to her husband for 60 years.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, April 3, at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church in Vero Beach with a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. She will then be taken to Brown-Forward Funeral Home 17022 Chagrin Blvd. Shaker Heights, OH 44120 where visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 5, and a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.

A private interment will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland. The family requests that a memorial contribution be made in her name to the McKee Botanical Gardens 350 U.S. 1, Vero Beach, FL 32962. (www.mckeegarden.org). Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory in Vero Beach.
