Vero Beach Choral Society presents ‘Songs of Passage’ March 28, 30

VERO BEACH – Now in its 29th season, the Vero Beach Choral Society will present its Spring concert on Friday March 28, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday March 30, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Ave., Vero Beach.

“Songs of Passage: from Life to Life Beyond” is a musical exploration of human life and the sublimation of the soul. The program is replete with vivid imagery, not only associated with the complexities of comprehending the end of life, but more so the celebration of the fulfillment of life.

This eclectic program features works from the 17th through the 21st centuries from Europe to the American South. Highlights include the “Libera me” from the Requiem, Op. 48, by Gabriel Fauré; “Sei lieber Tag, willkommen” by Johann Michael Bach; “Song for Athene” by John Tavener; and a setting of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem “Crossing the Bar” by Gwenyth Walker.

The American components of the program include selections from The Sacred Harp, sung in a style appropriate to the American shape-note tradition, and several Spirituals. The program will also feature the beloved English hymn “I Vow to Thee, My Country” in an arrangement by Choral Society Artistic Director, Dr. Jason Hobratschk, now in his second season as Artistic Director of the ensemble.

Tickets cost $10 in advance or $15 at the door and are available from Vero Beach Choral Society choristers, online at https://verobeachchoralsociety.org, or by calling (772) 494-5011.

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 2365 Pine Ave., at the intersection of Royal Palm Boulevard and 10th Avenue.
