VERO BEACH — The playground at Jaycee Park will be closed from March 24 through March 28 for the construction of the new sunshade.
The project should be completed by the end of the week, weather pending, according to the Vero Beach Recreation Department.
VERO BEACH — The Buggy Bunch, a Vero Beach-based nonprofit organization has donated a $20,000 sunshade to cover the playground equipment at Jaycee Beach park.
Buggy Bunch founder Kelly Sartain announced Tuesday night at the Vero Beach City Council meeting that a ribbon cutting will be held at 12:30 p.m. on April 3.
The Buggy Bunch wrote a grant to State Farm insurance company pitching the sunshade idea because the equipment is beyond what the city could afford. Sartain said the sunshade, posts and hardware arrived and was given to the city but that her member moms, who number about 3,000, had just been eagerly awaiting the installation.
Sartain also announced Tuesday that the Buggy Bunch would be donating an industrial-quality baby-changing table to the city to be installed at Riverside Park. The idea came up after the Under the Oaks event, which is attended every year by many young families.
“None of the park bathrooms have changing tables,” Sartain said. “We hope to do them one or a couple at a time until we get them all covered.”
The city staff will be asked to pick out the style and color for the changers in park bathrooms. Sartain said the changing tables cost $300 to $500.
The Buggy Bunch is also planning a festival in May and got permission from the city to have “small critters” in Riverside Park the day of the event.
