FELLSMERE – The regular monthly meeting of the US Navy Armed Guard and Merchant Marines will be held Saturday at Marsh Landing Restaurant in Fellsmere at 9 a.m.
The restaurant is located at 44 N. Broadway and all are welcome to attend.
The speaker will be Colonel Marty Zickert USAF (Ret.), who flew as a navigator aboard an Air Force KC-135, a flying fuel station for fighters-bombers over Cambodia during the Vietnam War. Marty said that none ever shot at us, and we were carrying up to 200,000 pounds of jet fuel.
Also Marty played baseball for the air base and they compiled a 95-8 win-loss record. He spent 30 years in the US Air Force.
He is now president of the Indian River County Veterans Council. He is helping veterans with their problems – if you have any questions now is the time to ask.
“We want to thank the person that paid for all 51 of our breakfasts at the February meeting, may GOD bless you,” the organization said in its release about the meeting.
The Honor Flight will resume flying March 22. Veterans are encouraged to get applications filed now. Applications can be delivered by calling 1-888-750-2522 or by e-mailing [email protected]. They will be taking some Korean War Veterans.
