Marsha Pearsaul Van Arman, 61, Vero Beach

Marsha Van Arman, 61, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 10, 2014, after a battle with cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Van Arman; sons Bryan (Kerry) Pearsaul; David (Samantha) Pearsaul; daughter Erin (Brandon) Wilhelmy; brothers Jeff (Cindy) Pearce, and Mike (Daphne) Pearce.

She was preceded in death by her father James Pearce and her mother Betty Peake.

Van Arman was born in Ohio and grew up in California and Cocoa Beach before moving to Vero Beach in 1975 to work for the School District of Indian River County.

She was a graduate of the University of South Florida. She was a classroom teacher for 21 years. In 1999 she was recognized as the Indian River County District Teacher of the Year. The last 11 years of her career were spent guiding new teachers and providing professional development for educators throughout the county. She retired in 2011.

After her retirement, Van Arman worked as an Educational Consultant for The Learning Alliance.

During her 39 years as a resident of Vero Beach, she served her community. She was a charter member of the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, and served as a Sunday school teacher and youth adviser at Community Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marsha Pearsaul Van Arman Education Scholarship through the Indian River state College Foundation. Contributions can be sent to the IRSC Foundation, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at Christ by The Sea United Methodist Church, 3755 Hwy. A1A, Vero Beach, FL 32963. A reception for family and friends will follow the service at the church. Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach. A guest book is available at www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
