INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Fellsmere mother’s baby was born on the way to the Indian River Medical Center Tuesday morning at 9:20 a.m., according to Asst. Fire Chief Brian Burkeen.
The mother was being transported by an Indian River County Fire Rescue EMS unit when they had to pull over at 53rd Street and US 1 to assist the mother. An additional unit was called to help drive them to the hospital since the two people manning the ambulance were in back with the mother.
“We transport pregnant females all the time, but rarely deliver,” said Burkeen.
All are healthy, according to Indian River County Fire Rescue.
