INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Senior Resource Association has announced that it will be holding “Community for Meals Week” as a part of its March for Meals campaign March 17 through 21.
Community leaders and local officials as well as local celebrities will be delivering meals for Meals on Wheels to show their support for the community’s homebound and hungry seniors.
“We are excited about having our first week-long ‘Community for Meals Week’ as a part of our March for Meals campaign to get the community more involved in supporting our homebound isolated seniors,” said Laura Roberts, Director of Nutrition Services at SRA.
March for Meals is a national campaign during the month of March, initiated by the Meals On Wheels Association of America, which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.
“March for Meals is an important time when communities like ours can come together to support the mission of Meals on Wheels to end senior hunger in our area and throughout the United States,” said Karen Deigl, President and CEO of the Senior Resource Association.
Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, like SRA’s Meals on Wheels, promote March for Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
The Senior Resource Association’s Meals on Wheels program serves over 200 meals a day to local seniors in need with over 100 volunteers to make this program possible. Meals on Wheels is always in need of donations for seniors who are currently on a waiting list to receive meals.
