Florence K. Cavanaugh, 70, of Vero Beach, passed away on March 4, 2014.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Jim) Anderson; step-granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth; brother, John Mahoney (Nancy); cousin, Ann Marie McGrath; and other nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Mahoney, and her granddaughter, Lucy.
Cavanaugh was born and raised in New York City, N.Y., where she met her husband of 49 years, Joseph Cavanaugh, who predeceased her in November.
A loving wife and mother, Cavanaugh was known for her outgoing and friendly nature. She began her career as a secretary at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She held several positions in retail including at Dress Barn, Dillard’s and most recently Chico’s. She owned a clothing store for many years in Cos Cob, Conn., and was treasurer of her ceramics club at Countryside in Vero Beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday, March 10, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Interment will follow in South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fla., at 1:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in honor of Florence K. Cavanaugh.
