Driver crashes into Sebastian Dollar Tree

SEBASTIAN — A driver crashed into the Sebastian Dollar Tree in the 1900 block of US 1 Thursday morning, according to the Sebastian Police Department.

At 11:20 a.m., the driver, identified as 68-year-old Cassandra Schmock of Barefoot Bay, crashed her 2013 Honda Accord into the store’s front windows. Neither she nor anyone on the scene was reported injured from the crash.

Schmock told Sebastian Police that her accelerator became stuck, leading to the crash. Subsequent to the investigation, Schmock said she was coasting when the car “surged” forward, according to the Police Department.

Investigators found tire marks from the vehicle as it drove over the parking curb and tire acceleration marks afterward, going into the store, police said.

The vehicle broke the store’s windows and damaged display shelving and merchandise, totaling a preliminary estimate of less than $10,000, according to Sebastian Police spokesman Ofc. Steve Marcinik.

Schmock was cited for careless driving and her vehicle has since been towed from the store.
