Donald ‘Obie’ O’Boyle, 82, Vero Beach

Donald O’Boyle, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 27, 2014.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia O’Boyle; sons, Michael and Timothy O’Boyle; daughter, Kelly Van Auken; step-daughters, Susan Posh and Diane Maltba; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ryan; and brother, Jay O’Boyle.

O’Boyle was born in Allentown, Penn., and served in the U.S.Navy with an honorable discharge in 1955. He was a dedicated employee of Mack Trucks for 37 years. He also served as an elected representative of the United Auto Workers for many of those years.

He was active in youth sports while his children were growing up and in 1973 was awarded the Jim Honochick Award-named after the Senior American League Umpire by the congregation of St. Thomas Moore Parish for his contribution to the youth of the parish.

In 1975, he married Patricia, his best friend and partner for life. After retirement from Mack Truck, he designed and sold in-ground pools. O’Boyle and his wife relocated to Delaware where they designed and built their home. They resided in Delaware for 15 years before moving on to sunny southern Florida to enjoy the rest of their life.

O’Boyle volunteered his services at Grove Isle Condominium Fishing Environmental Wildlife Club and the Home Association of Waterford Lakes to pursue preserving the environment and protecting the interests of the homeowners.

Services will be held at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home located at 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m. O’Bryan will be laid to rest at a later date in the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association in memory of Donald J. O’Boyle.
