Michael Somerset Cruit, 85, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 23, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bette; daughters, Caren Mack, and Cynthia Darby; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graduate of The Citadel, 1951, Cruit spent seven years in the US Air Force, retiring as Captain. He joined the US Foreign Service in 1961, Agency for International Development, serving as Program Officer in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Sudan over a period of 15 years.
In retirement, Cruit and his wife enjoyed home remodeling, buying “handyman specials” to fix up and sell at proper market prices in such places as Falls Church, Va., Quechee, Vt., and Vero Beach.
Cruit’s favorite volunteer work in Vero included Meals on Wheels delivery and feline socialization at The Humane Society. Until his death, Cruit lived at the Isles of Vero Beach.
