INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Following up to the Feb. 18 meeting, County Attorney Dylan Reingold presented a new resolution to eliminate the 6 percent, rate equalization charge for water and sewer, in non-unincorporated areas of Indian River County, at the Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday.
After receiving public comment, the Board voted 4-1, with Chairman Peter O’Bryan dissenting, to adopt the resolution.
According to the memorandum, the rate equalization charge currently generates approximately $200,000 annually, deposited into the General Fund.
The loss will be made up by a reduction in expenditures, an increase in property taxes, or a combination of both.
Elimination of the rate will take effect on Oct. 1, 2014.
