Raymond Scent, 86, Vero Beach

Raymond Scent, 86, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 24, 2014.

He is survived by his son, Robert M. Scent; daughters, Kathy S. Olswfski, and Mary Ann Cantwell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, June, son, Steven and grandson John Murphy.

He was born June 23, 1927 in Chicago, Ill., and had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1936.

Scent retired after 29 years in the US Navy as a Lt. Commander serving in WW II, Korean, and Vietnam Wars.

He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach, he served as Chaplain for the Indian River Medical Center for 11 years, and he was one of the Founding Fathers of the Indian River Habitat for Humanity. Scent was active in Community Affairs and introduced the First Real Estate Franchise Office to Vero Beach.

Thomas Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory of Vero Beach is handling arrangements.

At the request of the family a memorial service will be held at a later date.
