Man threatens to shoot another, attacks with machete

VERO BEACH — A fight among two men involved in an apparent love triangle led to one being arrested after having threatened the other with a machete.

During an argument over one man’s ex-girlfriend, another man threatened to shoot the girlfriend’s new boyfriend then attacked him with a machete, according to Vero Beach Police.

Antonio Mansfield, 41, saw the victim at the intersection of 27th Avenue and 20th Street, according to authorities. The victim asked where his girlfriend, whom Mansfield once dated, was.

This angered Mansfield, authorities said, which led him to then threaten to shoot the victim in the back of the head.

Mansfield then followed the victim after being stopped in traffic, the report said. At the corner of 19th Street and 26th Avenue, Mansfield got out of his vehicle and used a machete to threaten the victim. Mansfield swung it at him and nicked his arm, authorities said.

A witness said Mansfield threatened to cut the victim’s head off, according to police.

During an interview, Mansfield said he is dating the woman in question and who is pregnant with his child, according to authorities. He advised that the victim used to date her and that he is upset about it.

Mansfield said that he was beat up by the victim in January causing bruising to his face. He said that he was afraid of the victim. Mansfield said he felt threatened, but denied threatening the victim with a machete.

During the investigation, both men told authorities that they are involved with the woman.

Mansfield is being charged with aggravated assault, according to the report. Mansfield has been released on a $2,500 bond.
