Mary Virginia Dailey La Vine, 96, Vero Beach

Mary Virginia Dailey La Vine, 96, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 13, 2014.

She is survied by her son, Kenneth N. La Vine, Jr. (Angel); daughter, Linda J. Johnson (John); her son-in-law, James M. Coogan; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth N. La Vine; her daughter, Carol A. Coogan; and her two brothers, Vincent and William Dailey.

La Vine was born on June 2, 1917, the only daughter of the late Vincent and Corrine McCoy Dailey of Brockport, N.Y. Her father was the Chairman of the New York State Democratic Party.

She was raised in Rochester where she attended the Convent of The Sacred Heart. A graduate of Manhattanville College and the Katharine Gibbs School in Manhattan, she was an executive secretary in Manhattan prior to her marriage.

After their marriage in 1942, the La Vines settled and raised their family in Forest Hills, N.Y. While her husband pursued his career as a corporate attorney, La Vine served in various volunteer organizations; as President of the Long Island Chapter of The Visiting Nurse Association, as President of The Women’s Club of Forest Hills and as a member of The Garden Club of Forest Hills. She was also an enthusiastic bridge player.

The La Vines retired to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in 1985 and moved to Indian River Estates in Vero Beach in 1998 to be closer to their children.

A Visitation will be held at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 N US Highway 1, in Fort Pierce, on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. Her Funeral Mass and Burial will be held in New York.

La Vine’s family would like to thank the staff of Willow Brooke Court for their kind and considerate care of her these last years. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Residents Fund at Indian River Estates, 2250 Indian Creek Blvd. West, Vero Beach, FL 32966.
