VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to send the proposed zoning changes for Bob Summers Park and surrounding land to a second public hearing.
The purpose of the rezoning is ensure the preservation of open space and recreational uses for the site as well as to bring it into compliance with the future land use designation, according to city records.
Further, the document says the amendment would “help clear up any misunderstanding that the general public may have regarding what type of uses would be permitted on the subject property due to the two conflicting land use classifications.”
The 17.35 acres of property lies between East Indian River Drive and the Indian River Lagoon.
Currently, the property is zoned as a Marina District, but if adopted, the ordinance would change it to a Park-Active Recreation Zone.
Changing the zoning would not rule out the property’s use as a marina in the future.
