County man receives life sentence for murder by milkshake

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The man accused of murdering his roommate by giving him a poisoned milkshake pled guilty to the second degree murder charge this morning and received a life sentence plus 55 years for subsequent charges.

Timothy E. Gochenour, of Indian River County, pled guilty to a total of five charges including second degree murder, poisoning food or drink, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Assistant State Attorney Chris Taylor.

Judge Robert Pegg ruled in the plea, issuing maximum sentences for all five of Gochenour’s charges.

Gochenour poisoned his roommate Michael Gray last November by lacing a milkshake with large quantities of prescription medication.

Officials were contacted by Gray’s wife who asked for a welfare check after being unable to reach her husband.

Though Gochenour attempted to deter officials by sending them to a local bar in search of Gray, law enforcement officers searched the house and found Gray’s body his bed.

According to officials, Gochenour poisoned the milkshake after an argument about rent and privacy.
