SEBASTIAN — After two and a half years of planning and negotiations, Sebastian City Council has unanimously approved an ordinance to enter a non-exclusive agreement with Florida City Gas.
During the public hearing, concerns were raised about the lengthy 25-year contract and additional fees.
According to the contract, only Florida City Gas users will pay the utility tax, not the general taxpayers.
Many local business people expressed support for the contract. Fellsmere has previously entered into a similar agreement and has found the utility is attractive to businesses.
Florida City Gas anticipates construction for the natural gas lines to take six to nine months.
