VERO BEACH — A portion of Vero Beach is without power after a transformer at the Vero Beach Electric Plant failed, according to City Manager Jim O’Connor.
He said City Hall is currently dark and there have been reports that Miracle Mile, too, is without power. He could not estimate how many customers are currently without power or determine the extent of the geographical area that is down.
O’Connor said crews are on scene at the power plant working to resolve the failure. He said he did not know how long it would take to restore power.
A transformer that had five circuits connected to it failed shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Crews are working to reconnect the circuits, which has led to some traffic signals coming back online.
Drivers are reminded to approach intersections where the signals are down as four-way stops unless law enforcement is on scene to direct traffic.
O’Connor said he expects the Vero Beach Police Department to dispatch officers to various intersections.

- Along U.S. 1 between Miracle Mile and 12th Street
- Along Indian River Boulevard between Barber Bridge and 17th Street
- Traffic signal at 17th St./6th Ave. is out
The western end of town, near 43rd Avenue and State Road 60 appears to have power.
