Man accused of poisoning roommate faces murder charge

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The man accused of poisoning his roommate last November has since been charged with second degree murder, according to records from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

Timothy E. Gochenour poisoned Michael Gray’s milkshake following an argument the men had, authorities have said. He is accused of mixing a large quantity of prescription medications into Gray’s milkshake.

Gray’s wife, who was out of town, became concerned when she couldn’t reach him. She called the Sheriff’s Office asking it perform a welfare check.

Deputies who arrived on the scene detected nervousness on Gochenour’s part, according to the Sheriff’s Office. And though Gochenour told the deputies that Gray was at a local bar, deputies searched the home.

They found Gray’s body in his bed, covered in blankets, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Gochenour was interviewed by detectives and told investigators he and Gray had an ongoing argument in the days leading up to Gray’s death. The argument pertained to rent and privacy, the Sheriff’s Office said.
